Katsina state government has confirmed that, Telecommunication services have been shut down in 13 out of the 34 Local Government Areas in efforts to wipe out bandits.
The Special Adviser on security matters to the state Governor, Ibrahim Katsina confirmed the development to newsmen.
The affected Local Government Areas are Sabuwa, Faskari, Dandume, Batsari, Danmusa, Kankara, Jibiya, Safana, Dutsin-Ma and Kurfi that are bordering the dreaded Ruggu forest where most of the bandits have made their hideouts
Governor Aminu Masari while inaugurating a 13 member State monitoring and enforcement committee on Security Challenges Containment Order, he signed says, the state government is in talks with the Nigerian Communications Commission on the need to do the needful in some of the Frontline local government areas.
During the event, Masari named other three local government areas to be included in the list as: Funtua, Bakori and Malumfashi bringing the total of the affected areas to 13.
The development is coming days after the state Governor ordered the shut down of all commercial mobile phone charging points in the affected local government areas.
