The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, made this remarks at a one day leadership mentoring workshop for the executives of Nigeria Union of Journalists Chapels of Radio Nigeria, NTA, AIT and News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja.

Wabba, says the profession serves its function as the fourth estate of the realm, through investigative and objective reporting to put government on its toes at all times.

He lamented that despite the importance to journalists in the society, they are among the least paid with lesser welfare packages.

Wabba gave the assurances of the NLC to assist the NUJ in negotiating for better welfare for journalists in the country.

The NLC President describes how the union executives can play the role of both union leaders as well as journalists without having clashes with official duties.

Earlier, the coordinator of the programme and Chairman NUJ, DAAR Communications chapel, Abulu Patrick, explains that the training is aimed at building the capacity of the participants in the various areas of leadership and how best they relate with their colleagues and management.

The Chairpersons of the NUJ,FRCN headquarters chapel, Sandra Udeike, Emmanuel Ayinmiro of NTA Hq Chapel and Omor Bazuaye, Secretary, NUJ DAAR HQ Chapel, thanked the president of NLC for the training and urged the Labour centre to always come to the assistance of the NUJ to assist it in overcoming its challenges.
