The Police in Niger State have arrested three suspected gun runners and five hundred and sixty-seven ammunitions from them.
The Police Highway Patrol team intercepted them along the Makera-Mokwa road.
The gun runners are thirty-two-year-old Muhammad Bello and thirty-year-old Nura Umar.
The two suspects, according to the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Monday Kuryas, refused to stop for the Police to check their vehicle.
The suspects abandoned their vehicles, trying to run away.
They were caught by the members of the community and handed over to the Police.
Two AK-47 rifles, two AK-49 rifles, sixteen magazines, four hundred and seventeen live ammunition of 7.63 calibres, and one hundred and fifty RPG live ammunition were discovered during the search.
Twenty-five year old Habib Sani, the third gun runner, was arrested at Swashi village, while trying to transport fourteen locally fabricated rifles from Kanti village, in Mashegu Local Government Area, to Gufanti Community in Borgu Local Government Area, of Niger State.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, said that fourteen locally fabricated double-barrel and eight triple barrel guns were concealed in a sack they had.
Monday Kuryas added that the first two suspects were arrested while transporting the arms from Sokoto to a receiver called, Yellow, in Mokwa.
Sani told the Police that a local gun fabricator, by the name, Bilya, gave him the guns to deliver to one Bulus, in Gufanti village.
The three gun runners during the investigation, Monday Kuryas further said, confessed to their crimes.
He assured members of the public, that the suspects would be taken to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
