GOVERNMENTS NEGLECT OF THE TERTIARY EDUCATION SECTOR: WARNING FOR LOOMING INDUSTRIAL ACTION.
The Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education, Nigeria (SSUCOEN) wishes to
extend her appreciation and solidarity to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC), by condemning the Federal Government’s attitude and manner
with which it is handling the lingering issues that have overrun the entire Tertiary
Education subsector in the country.
SUCCOEN in a statement signed bybits National Secretary, Nwenyi Leonard Isioma, condemns the deplorable state of Tertiary Educational
Institutions in Nigeria, as a result of deliberate neglect by both the Federal and
state goverments. In particular, the Union bemoans the lack of concen, political
willand attention by federal govemment in handling agitations by Unions in publie
Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, which has widened the
plights of Nigeria students, with hardships and frustrations
it said it is on the strength of this, that SSUCOEN wishes to express her readiness to join
forces with the NLC to compel governments to do the needful towards an
immediate resolution of all lingering issues with Unions in Public Education
Institutions in Nigeria, especially the ongoing strikes.
SSUCOEN further warns that if government continues to be adamant in making
genuine efforts to resolve all the issues at stake, the Union would have no option
than to prepare and join forces with other affiliates of NLC, with a view to
grinding the economy to a halt.
